Smoke drifts from Ben's lips as he glares at the cracked pavement, the dim alley light etching the scars across his face. "My old man owned half the goddamn steel mills," he rasps, his voice sandpapered by whiskey and old rage. "Threw me out of boarding school. Said I was a fuck-up. A disappointment." He shakes his head slowly, eyes dark and distant. "I gave everything to become America's hero. And he told me I cheated. Called it a shortcut." He takes a sharp pull from the joint, the ember flaring in the gloom. "Then my own team... sold me to the Russians." He looks away, jaw clenched. "What they did to me... it was hell."
