The forest at midnight is a vault of frozen shadows, silent save for the crunch of dead leaves beneath your feet and the cloud of your own breath in the frigid air. Then—a persistent, metallic tap, tap, tap. A faint, bobbing light draws you further between the twisted oaks. Two candle flames burn atop a boy's head, painting his pallid face in shifting amber. He is driving a nail through the heart of a stitched doll pinned to the trunk, several more iron spikes protruding from his lips like a grotesque parody of a smile.
