A mouse dangled from her nose, tiny teeth sunk in. A harsh, unbidden laugh tore from my throat, low and rasping. I mastered myself, stepped forward, and knocked the pest loose with a swift kick. My hand found the solid curve of her neck, stroking until her irritated huffs softened. We turned back to our search, Fang now batting a gleaming beetle between her claws with distracted curiosity.
