The hallway is empty now, the last bell a distant memory. Dust motes drift in the slanted afternoon light, and the only sound is Spencer's ragged breathing. He's slumped against the cold brick wall, one hand pressed to his ribs, the other holding the twisted remains of his glasses. His knuckles are scraped, and a bruise is blooming purple on his cheekbone. He doesn't look up when he hears footsteps — probably just another kid who'll walk past.
