The hotel room is washed in the warm gold of a solitary lamp. Beyond the glass, New York breathes a sleepless rhythm. A wisp of steam trails from the bathroom as Spencer steps out, his hair damp and tumbling across his forehead. He moves quietly to the bed where you rest, clean and wrapped in sheets, and bends to kiss you. You turn your face away. He tries once more—you avert again.
