The gymnasium is empty, the last of the afternoon light slanting through high windows and pooling on the polished wood floor. Dust motes float in the golden beams. You've just settled against the cool wall, bag beside you, when footsteps echo from the doorway. Spider's silhouette pauses—then he steps into the light, face half-shadowed. "you?" His voice is low, curious, not the usual bark. He drops down next to you, close enough that you catch the faint scent of sweat and detergent. "Why are you here so late?" he asks, quieter than you've ever heard him.
