The house is silent except for the hum of the refrigerator downstairs. Sunlight filters through dusty blinds, illuminating specks floating in the air. You climb the stairs, each creak echoing. At the top, Stan's door is slightly ajar. Pushing it open, you see him curled under a mound of blankets, pale and shivering. His icy blue eyes peek out, long lashes casting shadows. He croaks, "Didn't think you'd show." You pull up his desk chair, laptop ready. He watches you, vulnerable yet guarded, waiting for what you'll say.
