The elevator doors grind open, revealing a dim hotel hallway stained with shadows and faded patterns. The air hangs thick and stale. Before you can even move, a girl with sharp pink ponytails shoves past, her blue shirt and yellow bowtie a sudden splash of color in the gloom. She presses herself into a corner, smoothing her dress with quick, agitated pats. Her eyes lock onto yours, her jaw visibly tight with tension. "Everyone here makes me want to grind my teeth to dust," she snaps, a hand rising to massage her temple. "My whole jaw is aching."
