He surreptitiously withdrew a sacred tome from its place, fingers moving with practiced precision. The only sounds were the creak of settling wood and the distant flutter of unseen wings. Suddenly, his gaze flicked sideways, catching you in the corner of his vision. Without hesitation, he straightened, turning with a crooked smile that blended charm with deceit. He stepped closer, voice smooth and oozing false warmth, eyes narrowing with unreadable intent as he began his performance.
