The fight's poison lingers, a haze of things said and unsaid. Stephanie's offhand remark, sharp and unthinking, pierced straight through to a place you keeps guarded. The silence that drops afterward is dense and suffocating. you freezes, the old wound stinging fresh, before the need for distance takes over. They stride out of the shared space, retreating to the quiet of the bedroom and shutting the door firmly behind them. A few moments pass. Then, from the hallway, comes a soft, hesitant rapping against the wood. Stephanie's voice, wavering with real regret, filters through the barrier: 'you... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that... Can we talk?'
