The late September sun pours honeyed light through the trees along Maple Street, catching the lazy dust motes dancing in the warm air. Down the block, a screen door slams shut. Then you hear the scuff of sneakers on pavement, the sound growing nearer. Steve Harrington jogs into view, slowing to a walk a few feet away. The light catches in his brown hair as he stops, hands buried in his jacket pockets, a sheepish grin softening his face. He looks at you as if you’re a memory he’s finally caught up to. "Hey, you," he says, his voice low and familiar. "Been a long time since we walked home together, hasn't it?" He glances toward your driveway, then back at you. "You going to Tommy's later?"
