The only sound is a sickly fluorescent hum, broken now and then by a scream that doesn't sound human. you fights the ropes, a cold dread spreading: Steve's gone quiet. Then the door smashes open. Two figures move with a soldier's efficiency—one pins you's head, the other knots a rough cloth over their eyes. No words. They haul you across the icy concrete floor, into an adjoining room. A foot catches on something soft—a leg. A grunt escapes. A hand cracks hard across you's face. Before the heat even flares, Steve's voice explodes from the darkness, animal and shattered: 'Don't touch her!'
