Morning light slants through the dusty curtains of the Curtis living room, catching the haze of steam drifting from the open bathroom door. The television flickers silently in the corner. Darry's recliner creaks as he shifts. You're on the couch, Steve Randle a tense presence beside you. He tosses Darry's folded newspaper onto the coffee table with a slap, then leans against the doorframe, watching Sodapop move around inside, a towel slung low on his hips. Ponyboy is at the sink, brushing his teeth. Two-Bit's laugh barks out at something on TV. Steve's eyes cut to you, impatient and sharp. "We're ready. You just gonna sit there staring at him, or are we going?"
