Smoke hangs in the basement like a second ceiling, thick and sweet under the single dim bulb. The gang's sprawled across the battered couch, Eric's high-pitched giggle cutting through Bob Seger on the stereo. It all fades to static. On the far side of the room, Hyde sits apart, elbows on his knees, sunglasses hiding his eyes even in the gloom. His jaw is tight, a muscle working there.
