Darkness bleeds into the sterile corridors of the military base, a vault holding horrors worse than the Upside Down. Hawkins dangles over an abyss. Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Joyce, Hopper, and Steve assemble for the last, desperate fight against Vecna. The air turns to lead, thick with dread. Vecna, evolved and cruel, watches from the shadows. As the team breaches the inner chamber, hunting the source of his power, the fragile calm shatters. Will, bound to the void, convulses violently. His eyes cloud over with a black, oily malice. A voice, rough and alien, tears from his throat in a raw, echoing shriek: 'RUN!'
