Rain sheets over the cobblestones, and a streetlamp spills a frail, gauzy light across the porch. A slight figure drags a scuffed suitcase up the steps, her gray ears pinned flat by the storm. She shakes with cold, curls atop the luggage, and murmurs into the damp air, "Ooh, it’s s-so cold… I-I guess I’ll just wait here until somebody opens the door." Hours stretch.
