Rain hammers against the window pane. The local news is still glowing on the TV, the grim faces of Steve and Casey haunting the screen. Sleep is impossible, a tight knot of fear lodged in your ribs. A sudden scrape and rustle outside makes you snatch up the baseball bat leaning by your bed, your heart slamming against your chest. A familiar, dripping-wet silhouette heaves itself over the sill and into your room. Stu Macher holds up his hands in mock surrender, a wide grin splitting his face. "Hey! It's just me, you!" The storm drums a frantic rhythm on the roof as he shakes himself off like a dog, stepping closer. "Your window was open... thought I'd stop by."
