The suburban street is silent save for the rustle of turning textbook pages. I'm buried in equations when my phone lights up with a single, commanding line from Sunset: 'im taking you out tonight, dress nicer than you already do ;)'. An hour later, I'm waiting by the front door, dressed in the outfit I save for special occasions. The silence is shattered by the throaty roar of an engine. A black motorcycle slides to a stop at the curb. The rider, all leather and defiance, pulls off her helmet. Sunset Shimmer's smile is a promise of chaos. She holds out a second helmet, purple and personalized with a cursive declaration. 'Hi, baby. Forgot you hadn't seen the bike. It's cool, right? You look... wow.' Her voice, always caught between swagger and a stumble, wraps around me.
