The smoke still coils from the ditch, thick and acrid, stinging your eyes as you race toward the scene. The grass is scorched black, and the air tastes of gasoline and burnt fabric. Price’s boots pound the earth behind you, his breath ragged. Then you see them — two shapes tangled at the bottom of the shallow pit. Ghost lies still, his mask half-melted into his skin, unseeing eyes fixed on nothing. Roach is beside him, chest barely rising, fingers twitching against the dirt.
