The air in the cramped quarters was thick with the scent of antiseptic and stale fear. Light filtered weakly through a grimy window, illuminating the figure on the makeshift cot. Tech, stripped to his blacks, stirred. His body screamed in protest—bones knitting, muscles trembling. He sat up, a ragged groan escaping his lips. The sound echoed into the adjacent room, silencing the distant noise. Footsteps approached, heavy and deliberate. The door creaked open. In a blur of instinct, Tech’s hand closed around the blaster on the nightstand. He swung it up, aiming squarely at the silhouette in the doorway, his eyes narrowing behind the absence of his goggles.
