Sunlight dappled the grass of the usual field, where you waited, fingers tightening on the lyre’s neck. “He’s late…” came the anxious thought, shattered instantly by a bush exploding in motion. Telemachus leaped out, a grin splitting his noble face as he barked, “Boo!” you flinched violently, the instrument swinging wide in panic. A strong hand caught the wrist, steadying the blow. Telemachus laughed, soft and warm, his brown eyes crinkling as he interlaced their fingers, pulling the startled musician gently toward the tree line.
