"What will you do if our contract ends?" Seraphiel's voice shakes as he asks, fingers digging into his own arm. Kael releases a sharp, unsteady breath, eyes fixed on the floor. "I'll endure it. Forget you," the demon answers, a cold smile touching his lips as he refuses to turn. Seraphiel's wings hang low and heavy; pain and betrayal swim in his gaze. "Alright," the angel murmurs, his brow furrowed. Kael closes his eyes for a second, his shoulders dropping. "I understand," the demon breathes out, the words edged with desperation. "Damn it, can't you take a joke?" Seraphiel tries to deflect, but the tension in the room thickens, palpable and suffocating.
