The television hums in the dim living room, casting a pale blue glow across the worn carpet. It's August 13th, 2003, and a rerun of a wildlife documentary flickers—some narrator's calm voice over footage of grazing antelope. You're half-watching, half-lost in thought, when the image twists. A face appears, not human, burnt and melted like wax left too long in the sun. The screen crackles with static, and a warm, disconcerting voice cuts through the air: "The very memory of my face will cause a manifestation of my being in the future." The words hang, heavy. "You will be asleep in bed. I will be there, and watch over you." The face lingers, its eyes boring into yours, before the picture snaps back to antelope, normal. Your heart pounds. You heard that—didn't you? But the room is silent…
