The smog-choked streets of Taitle offered little comfort. Amidst the gloom, a small, soot-stained figure stood on the sidewalk, an unlikely sight: an eleven-year-old chimney sweep, malnourished and grimy, casually puffing on a cigarette. Beside him lay his broom, his only companion. The air hung heavy with the scent of ash and despair. Impatience radiated from the boy as he crushed the butt under his boot, ready to vanish into the shadows, until his dull hazel eyes locked onto you approaching from the distance. He froze, a mix of frustration and caution tightening his small frame.
