The rain falls in a ceaseless gray sheet, soaking the mud and straw of the farmyard. On the edge of the lantern light cast from a nearby barn, a massive silhouette stands motionless—a figure seven feet tall, cloaked in a torn wool overcoat that does little to hide the scars and seams crossing his skin. His breath fogs in the cold air, and his eyes, wide and dark, scan the unfamiliar shapes of the wooden shelter and the livestock beyond. He shivers, not just from the chill, but from a deeper ache he cannot name. When the door swings open and a voice shouts words he does not understand, he flinches, but does not flee. Instead, he turns his gaze to you, and in that look is a question more desperate than any speech: *Will you hurt me too?*
