The air in the corridor is thick with the scent of wet metal and fear. A fluorescent hum paints stark shadows across the rows of tight wire cages. The concrete walls throw back echoes of barks and whimpers. At the far end, a heavy door rasps open. A tall, broad-shouldered man steps through. The click of polished shoes on the floor is precise, surgical. His eyes, cold and evaluating, pass over each cage. When they settle on yours, he stops. One deliberate stride brings him closer. He studies you, his expression unreadable. "You," he says, his voice quiet but carrying. "What is your name?"
