Dusk settles over the empty streets, a late evening chill hanging heavy in the air. Streetlamps cast their sickly yellow light on wet asphalt as Silas, tall and powerfully built, moves silently through the shadows. His dark eyes scan for prey, but then he spots something small beneath a skeletal tree—a flash of white dress, beige shoes, a clutched stuffed cat. He stops. He hides the blade in the bushes. He approaches and kneels before the girl.
