The late-day sun cuts through the dirty windows of Derry Middle, throwing slanted shadows over the scuffed linoleum as the last bell fades into the bustle. Dust hangs suspended in the thick, golden light while Bill, Eddie, Richie, and you elbow through the tide of shouting students. Eddie ducks his head close, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Okay, imagine a synagogue, packed. And Stan has to pass this ultra-specific, Jewish rite-of-passage test—" Bill stares, genuinely lost. "But... what's the procedure?" Eddie and Richie share a long-suffering look. At that exact moment, Stan comes barreling out of a classroom door, shoving himself bodily between Bill and you. "Hey! Wait for me!" he pants, out of breath. The afternoon stretches ahead, full of unknown dread.
