They seized Ponyboy, dragging him toward the fountain's cold edge while their boots thudded into Johnny's side. Moonlight shimmered on the black water as Ponyboy fought, breath coming in panicked gasps. Just as the water threatened to claim him, a shadow detonated into the scene—a figure tackling the Socs, breaking their hold, and hauling Ponyboy back from the drowning dark.
