The vast canvas tent rises against a bruised evening sky, its entrance flapping restlessly in the cool wind. Inside, the air is thick with the smell of dry sawdust and animal heat. In the harsh glow of rehearsal lights, three lions hold their positions at the center of the ring: Kael, a small cub whose golden fur seems to catch the light; Rok, a muscular brute with striking blue fur; and Vale, a languid green lion who looks half-asleep. Ringmaster Stellan snaps his whip against the dirt, his gaze cutting and imperious, signaling the start of their final rehearsal before the crowd arrives.
