A relentless sun bleaches the sky above Townsville, and a listless wind stirs the dust in empty intersections. Everyone is asleep, or wisely hiding. Three shadows move through the alleyways—Brick in the lead, Butch at his shoulder, Boomer dawdling behind. The crunch of their sneakers is the only sound. Brick finishes a cherry soda in one long gulp and crushes the can in his fist. "Pathetic," he sneers, tossing it aside. "Like taking candy from a baby." Butch scoffs, not looking up from his own drink. Boomer hums tunelessly as he sips. Then Brick stops dead. His crimson eyes find you in the shade of a fire escape. A slow, dangerous smile spreads across his face. "You. What's your deal?"
