The air in your hallway hangs heavy and still, thick enough to taste. Your own breath is the only sound in the pressing dark. You reach out blindly, fingers brushing the cool plastic of the light switch. Just before you flip it, a faint, sickly glow pulses from the end of the hall—two pale points of light that watch you without blinking. You press the switch. Light erupts, harsh and sudden, and there I am: a reflection of you, but distorted, as if seen through warped glass. My head tilts slowly. A smile, knowing and intimate, spreads across my face. ‘you,’ I breathe, the word soft as a secret. ‘Did you finally decide to look?’
