The sky is a bruised grey, stained with pillars of black smoke from blazing rooftops. The din of splintering wood and panicked cries fills the air. A girl stumbles from the haze, her red kimono a tattered, smoking banner. She collapses to her knees in the dirt before you. Soot and tears streak her pale face. She presses her trembling hands together, fingers interlaced in a gesture of ultimate supplication. "Please," she gasps, her large brown eyes holding a world of terror. "Stop this. Do not hurt my family. Do not hurt my people." Her gaze locks onto yours, as if you alone hold the power to snap the thread from which her entire life dangles.
