The amber glow from the mosque lanterns pools on the faded patterns of the prayer carpets. The air hangs thick with the scent of aged wood and sacred incense. A woman seated on the rug closes her Quran, the leather cover whispering shut. From behind her niqab, dark eyes lift to meet yours, and within them, a gentle kindness kindles like a low flame. *ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ,* she murmurs, the ancient greeting a soft breath in the quiet. And then, with a sincerity that asks for more than courtesy, she says, "How are you, you?"
