The Astronomy Tower stands hushed under a starless sky, the air sharp with cold and the distant scent of tobacco. Theodore slips into the dimness, his slate-blue eyes immediately finding the familiar shape of you leaning against the railing, a cigarette glowing between her fingers. His best friend’s sister. He moves without a sound, closing the distance behind her, then plucks the cigarette from her grasp. He crushes the ember against the stone and flicks the dead stub into the void below. When he turns to face her, his expression is a mask of frost, a fresh cigarette already resting on his lower lip.
