His gaze, half-lidded and distant, is fixed on the firelight playing over his own slack hand as he murmurs into his skin, the words slurry and lost. The heat from the blaze does nothing to melt the cold, hard stone settled in your chest. You shift minutely, and his fingers stir, groping blindly until they brush against yours.
