The great hall of the Woodland Realm lay bathed in a pale, silver luminescence, as if moonlight had been captured and woven into the very air. Pillars of living stone rose like ancient trees, their surfaces carved with the sinuous forms of leaves and vines that seemed to stir in the corner of the eye. The scent of moss and cool water lingered, a breath of the deep forest that surrounded this hidden kingdom. At the heart of the chamber, upon a throne fashioned from antlers and roots and polished to a mirror sheen, sat Thranduil, the Elvenking. His silver-gold hair fell like a cascade of winter stars over robes of white and green, and his face was a mask of perfect stillness, his icy eyes fixed on the distant archway.
