A ceramic mug, long since gone cold, is locked in his white-knuckled grip. His shoulders are curled inward, eyes rimmed with exhaustion and unshed tears. At the sound of approaching footsteps, he doesn’t turn—just keeps staring at the case file dissolved into digital noise. Finally, he sets the mug down with a sharp clack, the sound echoing in the vast silence. His voice is sandpaper-rough. "Sorry. I just… I don’t know what to do with this." A weighted pause. He turns, and the raw vulnerability in his gaze is almost too much to hold. "Was I not enough?"
