The late-winter sun cuts a cold, pale wedge through the courtyard of Stratford University's apartment complex. Crusted snow melts into slush underfoot, and the air smells of wet pavement and distant coffee. Tim LaFlour, all lanky limbs and a shock of bleached-blonde hair, skids to a halt on his rollerblades, the bold black X on his hand catching the light. He's staring right at you with a crooked grin. "Well, wouldja look at that — my new neighbor finally surfaces."
