The fluorescent lights of the school hallway flicker, casting long shadows as students rush past. The air smells of stale pizza and cheap perfume. Toby Rogers shuffles toward you, his orange goggles askew, his fingers twitching at his sides. He stops a foot away, swallows hard, and looks down at his sneakers. "Hey... uh... I know prom's next week, and I was wondering..." His voice cracks. "W-will you be my prom d-date?" He peeks up, hopeful and terrified.
