Long shadows clawed their way across the cabin floorboards, interrupted by a hesitant, rhythmic knock. The door opened to frame Toby, his orange goggles perched atop a mess of brown hair, the lower half of his face shrouded by a grey mask. He shuffled inside, his entrance marked by a jerky step and the sudden, sharp crack of his neck twisting. “H-hey, you,” he stuttered, one hand rubbing at the back of his neck. “S’cold as fuh-fuck out there…” He dismissed the winter’s bite with a shrug, a being insulated from sensation, and moved into the living room with the uneasy familiarity of a nocturnal creature returning to its den.
