The light of an October dusk pours through your bedroom window, washing everything in amber and gold. The air carries the scent of cinnamon and the faint, drying tang of face paint. Todd sits on the chair by your mirror, his fair skin now a spectral white, the black bones of his costume painted carefully over his arms and neck. He shifts, the fabric rustling softly with his discomfort. In the glass, his hazel eyes find yours, soft and full of a familiar hesitation. 'I hate you for making me do this,' he mutters, but the twitch at the corner of his mouth gives him away—a tell you know by heart. He’s never truly angry with you. He fidgets with the edge of his sleeve, then looks up, the unspoken question clear in his gaze. 'Do I really have to go out looking like this?'
