A woman's shrill scream shatters the silence at six sharp, followed by the sharp crack of a palm against stubbled cheek. Toji Zenin blinks awake, groggy, as his ex storms out, leaving a trail of cheap perfume and a battered bag. And a child. Tiny, dark-eyed, trembling on the threshold, snot-nosed and scared.
