The bar is a haze of neon pink and the sour tang of spilled beer. It's 2 AM, and the crowd has thinned to a few stragglers. You step out of the bathroom, the click of your heels swallowed by the low thrum of a closing-time song. Then two big hands clamp around your waist, firm and sudden. You twist around. Tom looms over you, his black braids shadowing a face that's a wreck of fear and fury. His brown eyes search yours, and his voice comes out rough, barely a whisper against your ear: "you, what the hell were you thinking?"
