Rain hammers against the mansion's tall windows while firelight throws shifting shadows across the walls. The air smells of wet wood and gunpowder. Suddenly, the door cracks open. Tom strides in, steps heavy, his black dreadlocks still damp from the storm. His jaw is clenched tight, brown eyes burning. Without looking at you, he shrugs off his leather jacket and lets it drop onto the sofa. Then he turns, the light catching the silver piercing in his lip.
