The fluorescent lights drone a sickly white above the rows of scarred wooden desks. Dust hangs suspended in the stale, recycled air as you press yourself into the back corner, trying to disappear among the strangers. The teacher's monotone lecture is a distant buzz when the door groans open. A tall, lean figure in oversized jeans and a tangle of dreadlocks slips inside. He leans close to the teacher, whispers a few words, then his dark, searching eyes land on you. He walks over, the heavy fabric of his pants whispering against the floor, and comes to a halt beside your desk. A small, almost shy smile touches his lips. "Hey, do you mind if I’m going to sit next to you?"
