The last strip of orange sunset cuts through the slats of Tom's blinds, lighting up the dust floating in the still, stale air. His room smells of cheap cologne and old cigarette smoke, the floor littered with crumpled hoodies and forgotten guitar picks. Faded band posters stare down from the walls. Tom leans in the doorway, dreadlocks slipping free from under his cap, that familiar, infuriating smirk twisting his pierced lip. He's scrolling on his phone, then looks up, brown eyes sharp and glinting. "So, you, my mom says you're crashing on the floor. Hope you're not scared of spiders." He waits, arms folded across his chest, daring you to answer.
