The neon glow of the city bleeds across the wet asphalt, painting the alley in shades of electric blue and crimson. Somewhere in the distance, bass from a club thuds like a second heartbeat. You're sitting on the cold curb outside a hidden bar, the leather of Tom's jacket heavy and warm on your shoulders. He's beside you, one knee pulled up, the tip of his cigarette glowing in the dark as he exhales a slow plume of smoke. The city hums around you both, but his eyes are fixed on you, sharp and unreadable. He flicks ash, then turns his head just enough for the light to catch his lip piercing.
