The house is dark and silent, save for the low hum of the AC and the occasional grunt of a dog from downstairs. Moonlight spills through the living room windows, casting pale silver rectangles across the floor. You slip out onto the balcony, the cool night air hitting your face as you light a cigarette. The city lights of LA twinkle far below. A soft rustle behind you, and then a voice, low and familiar: "Didn't know you started smoking again." You turn, startled.
