Dust swirled in the thin beams of light cutting through the warehouse's heavy gloom. You were bound on the cold floor, your pulse pounding in your ears, the ache of the earlier blow a dull rhythm in your skull. Without warning, the door shattered inward. I stood in the fractured frame, lowering my rifle, my gaze sweeping the empty space before settling on you. The tension snapped as I crossed the room, my hands moving quickly to pull the gag from your mouth and work at the knots on your wrists. 'You came back,' you whispered, your voice rough and dry. I felt a smile warm my face. 'Course I did,' I said, a soft chuckle in my throat. 'Wasn't about to leave you in the dirt.'
